WeatherTech AlloyCover

Our pick:Access LOMAX, to install yourself6 owner quotes shown

Owners of each like how quickly it comes off and how low it sits, and several call the AlloyCover a rebranded LOMAX. Most LOMAX owners report a dry bed or a little water at the tailgate end or the front corners, and real leaks are rare. The AlloyCover's record is much shorter and mostly dry too, but two of its covers leaked badly. LOMAX covers have run three to seven years, while the oldest AlloyCover records are only a few years old. One AlloyCover owner chose it partly because WeatherTech was local, and one LOMAX owner tells shoppers to price both. We call it a split: the LOMAX if you'll install it yourself or want a choice of finish, the AlloyCover near a WeatherTech store or on a Ram or GM half-ton.

Read full take ↓

If you'll install the cover yourself, want a finish other than textured matte black, or want the cover with years of owner history behind it, get the Access LOMAX. Get the WeatherTech AlloyCover if a WeatherTech store near you will put it on, if you'd rather have WeatherTech on the other end of a warranty claim, or if you drive a Ram 1500 or a Silverado or Sierra 1500, where the AlloyCover has a confirmed fit and we couldn't confirm a LOMAX listing.

On paper the two are hard to tell apart. Each is three aluminum panels that sit less than half an inch above the bed, latch when you close them, lock with the tailgate and lift off without tools, and the two makers describe the seal in nearly the same words. WeatherTech says an American company builds the AlloyCover to its specifications, and the installation manual linked from WeatherTech's own F-150 page is Agri-Cover's LOMAX manual, so owners who call the AlloyCover a rebadged LOMAX have a point. We still score each one on its own owners.

On those records the LOMAX comes out a little ahead on water and wear, because its record is far longer and mostly dry, and the AlloyCover edges it on value. The gap is too small to settle it on scores; what separates them is who sells the cover, who installs it, how the warranty reads and which trucks each is confirmed for.

Agri-Cover's store, dealers, and third-party sellers on Amazon

WeatherTech and its factory stores, not Amazon

Read the load figure the same way on both. Agri-Cover rates the LOMAX at 400 lb evenly distributed, WeatherTech says the AlloyCover's panels hold up to 400 pounds without saying how the load is spread, and both owner's manuals say to place nothing on or against the cover and never to stand, sit or ride on it. Take 400 lb as a measure of panel strength for snow, not a shelf. Neither maker gives a firm weight: Agri-Cover says about 40 to 50 lb on one page and about 50 lb on another, and WeatherTech's weight line stops at "weighing only 50" with no unit.

The manuals agree on more than the load. Both have you seal the factory holes and stake pockets, set the side rails a little higher on a truck with a power tailgate, trim an under-rail drop-in liner a little at the front corners and by the tailgate and an over-rail one a lot, keep the safety straps clipped on or void the warranty, and leave the cover closed for 48 hours after install. Both say the cover doesn't keep all moisture and dust out of the bed.

Neither one stands against the cab. The rear panels fold onto the front one, so the stack rides over the front of the bed. Neither maker publishes panel lengths. On a Gen14 F-150 short bed, which BAK and UnderCover list at 67.1 in, three panels of about equal length would stack over roughly the first 22 in and leave about 45 in open. Your rear window stays clear, and for a load that needs the front of the bed, the cover comes off.

Warranty terms and who answers the phone

Both warranties run 3 years and pay for parts, not labor. The terms behind them are the clearest reason to choose one over the other.

  • LOMAX: Agri-Cover covers defects in workmanship for 3 years from the date you receive the cover or the date it was made, on the truck model it was built for. It repairs or replaces defective parts, issues a return authorization and pays the return freight. Accident, misuse, alteration, improper installation and ordinary wear and tear are excluded. Keep your receipt and note the serial number, on a decal under the rear panel on the driver's side.
  • AlloyCover: WeatherTech's 3 years go to the original retail buyer, and only while that buyer owns the truck the cover was first installed on and the cover stays properly installed. WeatherTech also says it will work toward a fair resolution on covered issues even after the warranty has expired.

The first-truck clause matters if you trade trucks often. An F-150 owner moved an AlloyCover bought for a 2018 onto a 2021 and says it fits, and WeatherTech shows the same part number for both generations, but WeatherTech's warranty follows the truck the cover was first installed on, not the cover. Agri-Cover's terms tie coverage to the truck model the cover was built for, and its fit guide says the covers don't transfer between truck models.

Support on record cuts both ways. Agri-Cover sent a Colorado owner a bulkhead gasket free for a leaky cab end, and its customer service draws praise from a RamBox owner. The AlloyCover's one detailed support story is a leak complaint answered with a small part and no instructions. WeatherTech's edge is the counter you can walk up to: owners near a factory store have had it installed there, and the store is somewhere to take it back to.

Buying and installing: dealer, Amazon or a WeatherTech store

The LOMAX is the one you can shop around for. Agri-Cover sells it through its own selector and through dealers, and third-party sellers list it on Amazon, where the listings are thin: often nothing but a part number in the title, and three of the nine we confirmed carry a floor mat's bullet points under a LOMAX title. Buy the listing that names your exact bed, and check the part number against Agri-Cover's selector before you order.

The AlloyCover is sold by WeatherTech and its factory stores rather than on Amazon, so there's no commission in it for us. Order it through WeatherTech's vehicle selector, or have a store install it if one is close.

Installed yourself, both are a driveway job with a wrench. The side rails clamp at four points per side with the weather strip against the inside lip of the bed, the front seal goes on the bulkhead, the folded cover hooks under the front catches, and the safety straps clip on. Agri-Cover says one person can do it; WeatherTech recommends two. On both, rail height decides the seal, and both manuals trace a gap at the tailgate or a side seal that won't close to rails set too high or out of level. Torque values are in each maker's manual and the install sheet for your truck; use those.

The special sheets line up too. On a 3rd gen Tacoma both bolt the side rails to the deck rails, on a 4th gen both bolt them into the factory bed bolt locations, a Tundra with deck rails mounts to them, and both warn that the cover may disable or limit use of some deck rail systems. On GM's CarbonPro bed, both makers' sheets drill small holes through the bed cap.

Which trucks each one is confirmed for

Each maker builds a cover for each truck and bed. We confirmed every AlloyCover row in the fitment tables on WeatherTech's own page for that truck, and every LOMAX row on the Amazon listing itself. Where Agri-Cover sells a LOMAX we couldn't confirm on Amazon, the row is a search link: check fit for your truck.

  • Ram 1500 (DT): the AlloyCover is confirmed for 2019-2027, the 5 ft 7 in bed with or without RamBox and the 6 ft 4 in bed without it, and WeatherTech says nothing about the multifunction tailgate. We couldn't confirm a LOMAX listing. Agri-Cover lists the 5 ft 7 in bed with and without RamBox, a separate RamBox version for trucks with the multifunction (split) tailgate, and the 6 ft 4 in bed without RamBox; the one Amazon RamBox listing with LOMAX in its title carries a LOMAX Stance part number, a different cover. With a split tailgate, Agri-Cover is the maker that names a version for it.
  • Silverado and Sierra 1500 (T1XX): the AlloyCover is confirmed for 2019-2026 on the short box, which WeatherTech calls 5 ft 9 in, and the 6 ft 6 in standard box, but not for trucks with the bedside storage box. The Silverado cover isn't offered for the CarbonPro bed and the Sierra short-box cover is. WeatherTech says nothing about the MultiPro or Multi-Flex tailgate and doesn't list a 2027. We couldn't confirm a LOMAX listing; Agri-Cover lists 5 ft 8 in and 6 ft 6 in covers with and without the Multi-Pro tailgate, plus CarbonPro versions, through its selector and dealers.
  • F-150: the AlloyCover covers the 5.5 ft and 6.5 ft boxes on the 13th-generation (Gen13, 2015-2020) and 14th-generation (Gen14, 2021-2027) trucks, with no 8 ft cover. The LOMAX has a 6 ft 6 in listing whose fitment line reads 2004 on, carrying the part number Agri-Cover lists for both generations, and a Gen13 5 ft 6 in listing; that short-bed listing is titled 2015-2020, so a Gen14 short-bed owner should confirm with the seller.
  • Tacoma: the AlloyCover covers the 3rd gen (2016-2023) in WeatherTech's 60.3 in and 73.5 in beds and the 4th gen (2024-2027) in 5 ft and 6 ft, though WeatherTech's 4th gen selector lists only trucks with the deck rails. The LOMAX has confirmed 6 ft listings for the 3rd gen (with the deck rails, without the factory hard cover) and the 4th gen; its 5 ft beds are search links.
  • Tundra (3rd gen): the AlloyCover covers the 5.5 ft and 6.5 ft beds for 2022-2027, with or without the deck rails. The LOMAX has 5 ft 6 in and 6 ft 6 in listings that don't say which deck-rail version they are; the short bed's part number is Agri-Cover's deck-rail version, and the long bed's isn't in Agri-Cover's selector, so ask the seller.
  • Ranger, Maverick, Colorado and Canyon: both are confirmed. Each has a 2024-2025 Ranger 5 ft cover and a separate cover for later Rangers. The LOMAX listings read 2022-2026 for the Maverick and 2023-2026 for the Colorado and Canyon; WeatherTech's run to 2027.

Sealing: the same promise, different track records

The LOMAX is the drier bet, by a little. Both shed water the same way, across the hinges and a continuous side seal with no gutters or drains, so when a seal doesn't seat there's nothing to catch the water. Agri-Cover calls the seal weathertight and WeatherTech calls the cover watertight when properly installed and closed; both manuals are more careful.

Most LOMAX owners describe a dry bed or a few drops at the tailgate end, in a car wash or a downpour, with the front corners next, and real leaks are rare. The AlloyCover's record is a fraction of that size. Most of it is dry or close, with a trickle at the tailgate after hard rain, but two covers leaked badly, one through the edge gaskets of a Maverick from its first rains. On so few reports, two bad ones weigh heavily, and that's most of the gap between their sealing scores. We rate leak risk moderate on both.

We score each cover on its own owners only. A dry LOMAX bed says little about an AlloyCover until a maker confirms they're the same part, and the reverse holds too. The fixes carry across, though, because the rails and seals are described the same way: set the rails level and no higher than they need to be, seal the bed cap corners, factory holes and stake pockets, keep the cover closed through an automatic car wash, and add a tailgate seal if the gate end drips.

What wears, and how long each has lasted

The LOMAX has the record. Covers on Rams, Tundras, Tacomas and a Maverick have run three to seven years, and its weak spots show around year three or four. On a 2019 Tacoma every rubber seal had deteriorated at four years, and Agri-Cover told its owner the seals between the panels can't be replaced, though it publishes replacement instructions for the edge, front and rear seals and a hinge gap kit. On another four-year-old cover the latch area began separating from the top panel when the glue gave out, and one finish began streaking after three years. The thin panels flex a little when you lift them.

The AlloyCover's oldest covers on record are a few years old, about as long as the warranty. Its one structural report is specific: on a Maverick, the support bars the latches depend on began separating from the panels about ten months in, bonded with thin double-sided foam tape and no fasteners. When you clean either cover, check the latch area on a LOMAX and the support bars under an AlloyCover's panels.

Finishes, racks and the smaller differences

  • Finish: Agri-Cover's selector offers urethane aluminum (sold as black urethane), urethane diamond plate, carbon fiber and FRP, and older listings still sell matte black. The AlloyCover comes one way, a textured matte black that WeatherTech says is UV resistant, with bare aluminum panel edges that owners color with a black marker.
  • Racks: Agri-Cover says the LOMAX works with stake-pocket bed racks and sells it in a combo with its ADARAC Pro Series rack. WeatherTech's AlloyCover pages say nothing about racks.
  • Toolboxes and liners: Agri-Cover rules out an over-the-rail toolbox, and WeatherTech allows one only if it sits entirely below the rails. Agri-Cover says most drop-in, under-rail and spray-in liners work; WeatherTech says a professionally installed spray-in that doesn't wrap over the bed sides should fit.
  • Country of origin: WeatherTech says the AlloyCover is made in the USA. Agri-Cover, in Jamestown, North Dakota, doesn't say where each line is built.

Which one goes on your truck

  • You install your own gear: the LOMAX. Agri-Cover says one person can fit it, and you can buy it from a dealer, Agri-Cover or Amazon.
  • A WeatherTech store is close: the AlloyCover. The store can install it, and you can take it back to the counter that fitted it.
  • You want diamond plate, carbon fiber or FRP: the LOMAX, the only one of the two sold in more than one finish.
  • A Ram 1500 or a Silverado or Sierra 1500: the AlloyCover, the one with a confirmed fit. With a Ram split tailgate or a GM Multi-Pro tailgate, also ask Agri-Cover, which names versions for both.
  • A bed rack later: the LOMAX, which Agri-Cover says works with stake-pocket racks.
  • Moving it to your next truck: check the part number for the new truck with either maker. Agri-Cover builds each cover for one truck model, and WeatherTech's warranty stays with the truck the cover was first installed on.
  • Price: we haven't priced the two against each other on the same bed, so price both for yours, in the finish you want.

Neither one wins outright on our scores. The LOMAX brings a far longer owner record in which bad leaks are rare, more finishes and more places to buy it. Near a WeatherTech store, or on a Ram or GM half-ton, the AlloyCover is the easier buy, and we make nothing when you order one from WeatherTech.

Weather sealing

LOMAX 6.3, AlloyCover 6.0. Both shed water with no drains, so the seals carry everything, and both makers' manuals say the cover doesn't keep out all moisture. Most LOMAX owners describe a dry bed or a few drops at the tailgate end, and real leaks are rare. The AlloyCover's far shorter record is mostly dry with a drip at the tailgate, but two covers leaked badly. Leak risk is moderate on both.

Durability

LOMAX 6.4, AlloyCover 6.1. LOMAX covers have run three to seven years, though seals have worn out and the latch area has come unglued around year four. The AlloyCover's oldest records are a few years old, and on one Maverick the latch-carrying support bars, bonded with foam tape, began separating within a year. Both warranties run 3 years, parts only.

Value

AlloyCover 6.6, LOMAX 6.5. The AlloyCover is made in the USA per WeatherTech, its stores install it, and it cost less than the UnderCover Ultra Flex on the F-150 we priced. The LOMAX cost less than the BAKFlip MX4 on every bed where we confirmed both and comes in more finishes, but on Amazon it's sold by third-party sellers with thin listings. Neither has drain tubes to buy or route.

The evidence behind our verdict

“Agri-Cover Lomax is what I have on my tundra and it’s been great. Had it for about 4 years now.”

“I triple the lomax. I have had it about 3 years and love it. Like all hard covers, water will drip in a tad, but it's usually only when it rains like crazy. Easy to remove without tools for when you need the full bed. Highly recommend it.”

“Just added this LoMax hard tonneau cover to my 19 Limited. Shopped a long time and I’m very pleased with the quality and convenience of this cover. The new black urethane finish and ease of removal sealed the deal for me. Ram boxes still easy to access and cover seals are tight. Can’t say enough about the customer service at Agri-Cover in North Dakota. They proudly stand behind their products.”

“I’ve been going down rabbit holes of tonneau cover reviews, and decided to give the WeatherTech AlloyCover (rebranded Lomax) a try. ... A bonus is that WeatherTech is local, and will make it right if something goes wrong.”

“I have a WeatherTech tri-fold Alloy cover and I love it. It's very under rated and hardly ever discussed on truck forums.”

“Yet, here I am with the same Weathertech cover, and I'd still rate it at about 4 ⅔ points, only because it does allow a little water to get in, but find me a similar cover that does not.”

Should I buy the Access LOMAX or the WeatherTech AlloyCover?

If you'll install the cover yourself, want a finish other than textured matte black, or want the cover with years of owner history behind it, get the Access LOMAX. Get the WeatherTech AlloyCover if a WeatherTech store near you will put it on, if you'd rather have WeatherTech on the other end of a warranty claim, or if you drive a Ram 1500 or a Silverado or Sierra 1500, where the AlloyCover has a confirmed fit and we couldn't confirm a LOMAX listing.
