Quick Take
Buy the BAK Revolver X4s. RealTruck says its Colorado part works with the factory sport bar, its listing covers 2026 trucks, and it rolls into a tight bundle at the cab instead of folding into a stack that fills the rear window. Of the covers we've reviewed with a confirmed listing for the 2023-on Colorado and Canyon, it also has the best water record, narrowly ahead of the Ultra Flex.
Your plans can change the answer. If you'd rather fold than roll, the UnderCover Ultra Flex is the folder we'd buy, and the tailgate works with it shut. If crossbars will ride on the cover, get the RetraxPRO XR for its T-slot rails. On a budget, the Rough Country Low Profile and the Tyger T3 cost far less, but Rough Country says its cover doesn't fit Trail Boss models because of the factory sport bar, and the T3 sits narrower at the tailgate end on this truck. TruXedo's Sentry CT, our top-rated cover elsewhere, has no Amazon listing we could confirm for this truck.
Each of the five covers below has a confirmed Amazon listing for the 3rd gen Colorado and Canyon bed, and each one wins a different job. See picks ↓
The 2023-on Colorado and Canyon make cover shopping simpler than a full-size truck does. Every listing we confirmed is for one short bed, and each names both trucks on the same part. The hard part is the shortlist: several covers we'd pick first on other trucks have no confirmed Amazon listing for this one, so the picks below come from the covers that do.
Our pick is the BAK Revolver X4s, a hard roll-up with aluminum slats under a vinyl top. On a 5 ft bed, the cover's open position matters more than it does on a long box, and a roll at the cab costs less bed and less rear view than a folded stack. We've reviewed all five picks in full. The order below follows how well each one fits this truck's jobs, the sport bar and model-year cutoffs included, rather than the review scores.
Two details on your own truck decide what fits: whether it carries the factory sport bar, and what model year it is, because some listings stop at 2025. Check both before you order.
The best Colorado and Canyon tonneau cover for each job
Pick the job first. The cover follows.
- Best overall: the BAK Revolver X4s. It's the only pick whose maker says it works with the factory sport bar, its listing covers 2026 trucks, and its water record edges out every other cover with a confirmed Colorado listing: X4s owners who mention water mostly stay dry, the others see a little, and nobody reports soaked cargo. It's rated 400 lb evenly distributed with a 5-year warranty. The install takes patience.
- A hard folder: the UnderCover Ultra Flex. Folded, its panels stand upright on prop rods instead of leaning on the cab, and the listing says the tailgate closes with the cover up or down. It matches the X4s on rating and warranty for less money, and its listing stops at 2025.
- A rack on the cover: the RetraxPRO XR. Crossbars clamp into rails that span the cover from cab to tailgate, and the key locks it open, shut or anywhere between. It's the priciest pick, and on a bed this short the canister costs you about a fifth of the floor length.
- Budget hard cover: the Rough Country Low Profile, a hard tri-fold that locks with your tailgate. The front panel stays bolted down, so roughly the front third of the bed is always covered, and Rough Country says it doesn't fit Trail Boss models because of the factory sport bar.
- Cheapest: the Tyger T3 Soft Tri-Fold. Vinyl over an aluminum frame, a 5-year warranty and no lock or load rating. On the 3rd gen it can sit narrower at the tailgate end, so check the fit the day it arrives.
- Security: only the RetraxPRO XR has a key. The X4s, the Ultra Flex and the Rough Country latch shut on their own and release only with the tailgate open, so they're as secure as your tailgate lock, and the T3 is vinyl. If tools stay in the bed overnight, buy a hard cover and keep the tailgate locked.

Their makers call all five no-drill, clamp-on installs on most trucks, and none publishes a cover weight. The one install that can involve a drill is the RetraxPRO XR's: its drain tubes have to reach the bed's drain holes, and on some trucks that means drilling the plastic plugs at the front of the bed.
Read every rating here as a parked load spread across the whole closed cover. A cooler on one panel isn't that, and neither is a rack on the move. The Rough Country and the T3 publish no rating, and Tyger's warranty says to put no weight on the T3 and doesn't exempt snow, so brush it clear after a storm.
Roll-up, folder or retractable on a 5 ft bed
Short beds punish bulky open covers, so our order here is roll-up first, then a folder, then a retractable only for rail users. Every inch the open cover takes comes out of a small bed.
The X4s rolls into a strapped bundle at the cab. RealTruck doesn't publish its size, but one owner puts it at maybe 8 in, which leaves about 54 in of the 62 in bed clear behind it, with nothing standing in the rear window. The release cables sit at the tailgate end, so you open it with one hand from the back of the truck.
A folder costs about the same floor and more of the view. The Ultra Flex's folded panels take roughly the front 8 in of the bed and stand upright on prop rods, off the glass but right behind it, so they still block much of the view out the back. A BAKFlip MX4, which leans its stack back against the cab, blocks the view out the back of a Colorado entirely. The Rough Country never stands in the window at all, because its front panel stays down; the price is a covered strip at the front of the bed, about 21 in long if the three panels split evenly, unless you unbolt the cover.
A retractable keeps the window clear and gives up the most floor. Retrax lists this bed at 58.9 in, and owners measure the PRO XR's canister at about 12 to 13 in on other trucks. Take 13 in and about 46 in of floor length is left at full height, roughly a fifth of the bed's length gone for good. Flat gear and straps still fit under the canister. In exchange you get a cover that locks part-way open, which holds a load that sticks out past the tailgate.
Folded, the T3 covers roughly a third of its 61 in bed, about 20 in of floor length. That's the trade for the lowest price here, and if you load the bed full-length often, a roll-up suits you better.
One bed, many names: matching the listing
Every Colorado and Canyon cover listing we confirmed is for the same short bed, and none of the 2023-on listings or maker fit pages we've read offers a second bed length. The names still vary. BAK and UnderCover call it 5 ft 2 in (62 in, or 61.7 in on the Ultra Flex), Tyger says 5 ft 1 in (61 in), Rough Country says 5 ft (61.7-62.7 in), and Retrax lists 5 ft (58.9 in). Peragon and Leitner call it the 5 ft bed.
Colorado or Canyon doesn't matter on Amazon: every listing we confirmed for these picks names both trucks on one part. Makers that split their own pages by brand can differ, though. Peragon's Canyon page marks the 2023 and 2024 trucks "Drilling is required on this model," a note none of its 2023-on Colorado years carries, so read the page for your badge.
The year matters more. The X4s and T3 listings run through 2026. The Ultra Flex listing stops at 2025, and so does the Rough Country's, whose single listing also covers the 2nd gen trucks. The RetraxPRO XR listing disagrees with itself: 2023-2025 in the title, 2023-2026 in the fitment bullet. On a 2026 truck, buy the X4s or the T3, or confirm the fit with the seller first.
Sport bar, trims and the tailgate
The factory sport bar is the Colorado's main fitment trap; on a 2025 Trail Boss it mounts on top of the bed rails. RealTruck says the X4s's Colorado part works with it. Rough Country says its Low Profile doesn't fit Trail Boss models because of the bar. The Ultra Flex, PRO XR and T3 listings don't mention it either way, so if your truck has the bar, buy the X4s or get the seller's answer in writing.
Beyond the Rough Country's Trail Boss note, none of these listings names a trim. Fit still varies truck to truck. On a ZR2, a T3 sat narrower toward the back and left the holes there uncovered. Tyger called that by design, and the owner sent it back for a Rough Country tri-fold, model unnamed. Before you tighten any cover's clamps, look along both rails at the tailgate end.
The tailgate sets the daily routine. The Ultra Flex listing says the tailgate closes with the cover up or down. The Rough Country, X4s and Ultra Flex all lock through the tailgate, so a locked tailgate is a locked bed. The RetraxPRO XR opens with the tailgate shut and locked, which is why it carries its own key. None of these Colorado listings says anything about a powered or multi-function tailgate, so if your truck has one, ask the seller before you order.
Keeping a Colorado bed dry
Expect a little water with any of these covers, and less with a hard roll-up. The X4s has the best record of the five, narrowly, and with no fold seams there are fewer places for water to get in. The Ultra Flex and the Rough Country stay dry for about half the owners who describe water, with most of the rest seeing a little in one spot. Expect most PRO XR covers to take a little water, mainly through the side rails and next at the tailgate seam. The T3's short record says mostly dry, and Tyger's seal strip goes on any gap you can see daylight through.
The ends of the bed are where water gets in: the front bulkhead seal at the cab and the corners at the tailgate. Clean the front bed wall before the bulkhead seal goes on, then run a hose over the closed cover and open the bed to look before any luggage rides back there. If a rear edge doesn't sit flush with the tailgate, the cover may be too far forward. On an X4s, slide it back with the four hand nuts before you blame the seals.
Drain tubes come with some covers and not others. The X4s has none in the kit. The Rough Country's two tubes push into the front of its side rails, and the PRO XR's run from the canister toward the bed's drain holes. Trim tubes so they just reach and point down; a tube left long can flap in highway wind and slap the back of the cab. If the install guide for your part calls for a hole, follow it, and treat any bare metal so it doesn't rust.
Liners change the fit. With a drop-in liner, the X4s kit has a thinner bulkhead seal for you to use, and Tyger says an over-the-rail liner needs small holes cut for the T3's clamps; an under-the-rail liner works as is. With a spray-in, clean the front wall well before any adhesive seal goes on. In snow, clear the cover before you open it, as RealTruck and Tyger both tell you to, and don't force a frozen retractable; Retrax says to tap around the edges by hand instead.
Racks on a Colorado or Canyon cover
For a rack on top of the cover, the RetraxPRO XR is the base we'd use. Leitner's TONNEAU rack clamps into its cab-to-tailgate T-slots, and Leitner lists a 5 ft TONNEAU part for the Colorado through 2026, with the Canyon on the same part. Amazon also sells the Colorado PRO XR bundled with TruXedo's Elevate rack, which we haven't reviewed. The TONNEAU and Leitner's two bed-rail versions share one review, filed under the ACS FORGED.
Check the numbers before you load it. The PRO XR's 500 lb evenly distributed figure is RealTruck's rating for the closed cover; RealTruck gives no rack or T-slot limit, so don't read it as one. For the TONNEAU, Leitner's FAQ and install guide give 400 lb on the road and 800 lb parked, and no off-road number, since the rack is secured through the cover. Get the limit for your load from Leitner and RealTruck in writing, and tighten the rack hardware only to the figures they give: rack bolts cranked down too hard have bent PRO XR tracks.
The cheaper RetraxONE XR has the same rails on a polycarbonate cover rated 200 lb evenly distributed, with a one-year warranty, and Leitner lists it as a TONNEAU base too. BAK puts T-slot rails on the Revolver X4ts, the rack version of our top pick. Its Colorado listing is one we haven't confirmed, so check fit for your truck. The X4s itself isn't a rack base: its install sheet says not to tie cargo to the cover or its framework. Rough Country says no to bed racks on the Low Profile, and the T3 has no rating to put one on.
Leitner's FORGED and NDNS racks have 2023-on Colorado parts, but they mount to the bed rails and go under a cover only by converting to the TONNEAU. The FORGED's install guides have you drill the bed walls for its rear support arms on every truck we cover except the Tacoma; the NDNS clamps on without drilling.
Other covers we reviewed for the Colorado and Canyon
- UnderCover Armor Flex: the Ultra Flex with a textured coated top, for owners who'd rather not baby the finish. It has a confirmed 5 ft 2 in listing for 2023-2025 and costs a little more than the Ultra Flex here. Check the hardware against the parts list the day it arrives.
- BAKFlip MX4: BAK's flagship folder, with a confirmed 5 ft 2 in listing for 2023-2026 and a tailgate that works with the cover shut. Folded, its stack blocks the view out the back entirely, and too many arrive leaking for us to pick it; we rate its leak risk high.
- BAKFlip G2: BAK's cheaper folder, rated 300 lb with a 3-year warranty and a confirmed 2023-2026 listing. You lift the rear panel to close the tailgate, so it suits a bed you open now and then.
- BAKFlip F1: fiberglass-reinforced panels with a confirmed listing titled 2023-2026, though RealTruck's own fit line stops at 2025, so confirm a 2026 truck with RealTruck.
- RetraxONE XR: the PRO XR's rails and canister on a one-piece polycarbonate cover, noticeably cheaper, with a 5 ft listing that RealTruck calls the 5 ft 2 in bed. Rated 200 lb evenly distributed, with a one-year warranty, and it lets in more water than we'd like.
- Peragon Landmark: a locking retractable whose panels fold down into the front of the bed instead of into a canister, so the window stays clear. Peragon sells it only direct, so we earn nothing on it. Its Colorado and Canyon pages list the 5'0" bed for 2023-2027, and the Canyon page says drilling is required on the 2023 and 2024 trucks. Open, the panels hang about 10 to 12 in down into the front of the bed, and Peragon says it isn't watertight.
Three covers we've reviewed have Colorado parts at RealTruck but no Amazon listing we could confirm. The TruXedo Sentry CT is the driest cover we've reviewed on any truck, and RealTruck lists a 5 ft 2 in version. The TruXedo Lo Pro is the name-brand soft roll-up, with RealTruck's limited lifetime warranty. The Gator EFX is a budget hard folder rated 300 lb with a 2-year warranty. Each one needs a fit check for your truck before you order. LEER's HF650M has no Colorado or Canyon listing we could find.
Several covers turn up on Colorados. Bison, a Canadian maker, sells a hard cover for the truck that can still let a little water in at the tailgate corners. The Access LOMAX hard tri-fold has fans for its security, which holds only as long as the tailgate locks. We've reviewed it, it's the removable hard tri-fold we'd buy, and its Amazon listing names the 2023-2026 Colorado and Canyon. An OEDRO hard cover lets some water in during heavy rain. A Gator hard tri-fold can need a push on one side before the middle latch catches. We can't vouch for the Bison, OEDRO or unnamed Gator covers yet.
The WeatherTech AlloyCover is one we have reviewed: WeatherTech sells it direct for the 2023-on Colorado and Canyon, and it installs easily as long as the tracks go on the correct sides.
Which cover goes on your Colorado or Canyon
Most 3rd gen trucks should wear the X4s. It works with the factory sport bar per RealTruck, its listing covers 2026 trucks, it costs none of the rear window when it's open, and its water record narrowly beats every other cover we've reviewed with a confirmed listing for this truck. Budget an afternoon for the install. The wind blew one X4s off its rails after 13 months, so check that the clamps are snug after the first few drives.
A truck without the sport bar that never needs the rear view with the bed open can take the Ultra Flex instead: it's the folder we'd buy, and the tailgate works with it shut. Spend up for the RetraxPRO XR only for a rack. On a budget, the Rough Country is the hard cover for any trim but the Trail Boss, and the T3 is the cheapest cover we'd put on this bed, as long as you check the fit at the tailgate before the box goes out.
The picks
Products we recommend for this guide.
BAK Revolver X4s Hard Roll-Up Tonneau Cover
Our pick for the 2023-on Colorado and Canyon. Aluminum slats under a vinyl top roll up at the cab and leave the rear window clear, the listing covers 2026 trucks, and RealTruck says this part works with the factory sport bar.

UnderCover Ultra Flex Hard Folding Tonneau Cover
The folder we would put on a Colorado: panels that stand on prop rods off the glass, a tailgate that closes with the cover shut, and 400 lb and 5 years for less money than the X4s. Its listing stops at 2025 and says nothing on the sport bar.

Rough Country Low Profile Hard Tri-Fold Tonneau Cover

Tyger Auto T3 Soft Tri-Fold Tonneau Cover
Our lowest-cost pick for this bed: vinyl over an aluminum frame, backed for 5 years, with no lock and no load rating. On the 3rd gen it can sit narrower at the tailgate end, so check the fit before the box goes out.

What owners say
Colorado and Canyon owners shop covers around a short bed, the rear window and whether the cover locks. A LOMAX owner likes that nobody gets into the bed without the keys, but hard covers here still let some water in, at the tailgate corners on a Bison cover and in heavy rain on an OEDRO. Fit at install is the other recurring theme: a Gator hard tri-fold needed a push on one side before its middle latch caught, and a Tyger T3 on a ZR2 sat narrower toward the back, which Tyger called by design. Colorado-specific owner reports on the other covers we pick are thin so far, so their reviews carry the wider record. We'd pick by the job, then check the listing's years and the sport bar note before ordering.
“Bison tonneau makes one, I have it installed and haven’t had any issues. It does leak a bit in the corners near the tailgate but I’ve already looked at it, should be an easy fix.”
“Mines a lomax hard cover, but I love it, no one can get into my truck bed with out my keys”
“I have oedro hard cover . It looks good but it’s not that great it leaks some water during heavy rain.”
“I have the hardcover gator trifold, the only “issue” I’ve had with mine is the initial setup because one of the rails wouldn’t line up properly to where the middle latch clips. All I have to do is push the side down and it clips”
